What is the Junior Development Programme?

The JDP (Junior Development Programme) gives your child the opportunity to compete against other associations from Zone 1 (Northland, Hibiscus Coast, North Harbour, Waitakere, Auckland, Counties Manakua and Franklin).

All teams are graded according to ability where they will compete in the Zone 1 Super
City Competition. Players may also be selected to represent Coast Basketball at the

* Game day operations (parent volunteer for score bench, score sheets are correctly filled out and helping manage team bench during games)

Parents are asked to help on score bench duties for each game and if needed help with car pooling.

* Club teams will require a parent coach in order to operate. Coach Development workshops will be available for parent coaches. Our Director of Basketball will also work closely with parent coaches to help upskill coaches.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

JDP Selections:

● Prospective players are expected to attend 2 of the 3 sessions (attending all 3 offers more opportunities for selectors to see your child)
● Players will be selected into a squad expected to attend selection games
● Players and parents will need to communicate with HCBA’s Director of Basketball Dan Bungard if they no longer wish to be part of a team or the selection process.

HCBA will do its best to offer a team for every player. However this is limited to court
availability of training venues, coaches and by the selection guidelines.

Teams will train 1 x per week in their squad (2 teams) and train 1 x per week in the HCBA Academy with the Director of Basketball. Trainings will be 75 mins - 90 mins in length.

HCBA can not give set days and times for teams until we know when our coaches are available and what court times we are able to get. We do try and make it work for everyone but are dictated by these 2 primary factors.
